Setting Up the Driver ID Fob System

Learn how to set up and assign Driver ID fobs so that your tracking portal automatically shows which driver is using each vehicle.

What Is the Driver ID System?

The Driver ID system is an optional add-on for your tracking devices.
It allows drivers to use a key fob to log themselves in by pressing it against a receiver.

When a driver uses the fob:

  • The system updates automatically to show who is driving the vehicle.

  • If a driver forgets to use the fob, a buzzer alerts them.

This system ensures accurate tracking and driver identification for both live monitoring and historical reports.

Adding Drivers

Before assigning fobs, you need to add the drivers who will be using them:

  1. Go to Drivers on the left-hand menu of the tracking portal.

  2. Click Create to add a new driver.

  3. Enter the driver’s name and save.

Once added, the driver will appear in the system and be ready for a fob assignment.

Assigning Fobs to Drivers

To link a fob to a driver:

  1. Go to RFID Tags in the portal.

  2. You’ll see a list of all your fobs along with their unique codes.

    • These codes are printed on each physical fob.

  3. Click Edit next to the fob you want to assign.

  4. Give the fob a name for reference (for example, Jamie’s FOB).

  5. Select the driver to assign it to and click Save.

Once assigned, whenever the driver presses that fob against any vehicle receiver:

  • The driver name appears next to the vehicle on the live map.

  • The driver is also recorded correctly in historical reports.

Benefits of the Driver ID System

  • Automatically tracks which driver is using each vehicle.

  • Alerts drivers if they forget to log in.

  • Improves accuracy and accountability in reports and live tracking.

By assigning a fob to each driver, your fleet data becomes more reliable, and managing multiple drivers per vehicle is simpler and clearer.
